Making real work of social issues

PAKO CARES
Pako started at Morgens Conclusion in January 2019 as a consultant. Now, almost five-and-a-half years later, he is still working there with just as much pleasure. And that is a record for him. ‘I often left previous jobs after three years, because either the position or the organisation didn't quite fit after all. At Morgens Conclusion, I get to think about social issues and my work is very varied. The ideal combination for me.’

Consulting to non-profit organisations

‘After working as a line manager for a while, I knew for sure: I want to get back into consultancy. I already had some experience in that and I really enjoy working with different clients. In addition, I was looking for an organisation where social issues play a bigger role. And that's what I found at Morgens Conclusion. We work for clients in healthcare, government and education. Each client has its own client question and together with my colleagues we look at how we can strengthen an organisation. From the data team, which I started together with two other colleagues, we deal with data-driven work and data-driven transformations, among other things. Furthermore, I am product owner of a scrum team at the Judiciary, a mentor for four colleagues within Morgens Conclusion and I am in our corporate social responsibility (CSR) club. So plenty of variety.’

Taking part in projects at schools, hospitals and government offices. Our advice is influential.

Corporate social responsibility

‘About six years ago, some colleagues got together to do more with sustainability. That is now the CSR club I belong to. We started working to reduce our own CO2 emissions. We did that with a new mobility policy, by which we only wanted to drive electrically from a certain point onwards. This was quite a big project, but about three years ago, the new policy took effect and all the cars we buy are electric. Conclusion itself was also working on a new mobility policy and started talking to us about how we had organised this. In this way, we helped Conclusion-wide to develop a more sustainable mobility policy. We also look for cooperation with other companies within the Conclusion ecosystem when it comes to sustainability. In this way, too, we continue to learn from each other.’

Volunteering in the region

‘We also set up another project, which I look back on with pride. Positive health is something that recurs in many of our assignments within healthcare. To introduce this theme in other places, several colleagues visited community centres in Leiden. We told them more about the philosophy of positive health and planned individual discussions where needed. During these talks, we filled in the positive health ‘spider web’. This web included topics such as mental well-being, quality of life and meaning. I also visited five or six times to discuss this topic. It was an interesting experiment with varying degrees of success. But I think it's a great example of how we really connect with people and try innovative things.’

The best thing about my job? The involvement of colleagues, the informal atmosphere and the mutual cooperation.

Internal commitment

‘All colleagues are also heartily engaged. Involved in each other, in creating a nice working environment and also in sustainability. For instance, we challenge each other through ‘challenges’ to do more with sustainability outside work. Think, for instance, of the challenge to not buy anything new for a week. Or to eat vegetarian or vegan for a week. The recipes then fly around your ears in the chat. It is a piece of awareness that we stimulate among each other. The importance of sustainability, but also diversity, equality and inclusion is alive and well internally and we want to take it further together.’

At Morgens Conclusion, we challenge each other to make a sustainable choice every day.

Rapid growth

‘Morgens Conclusion is a place where you can and may be yourself. A culture where everyone feels welcome and where you're not a number. Because we have been growing rapidly over the past few years, I think we do face a challenge. We want to maintain this culture. Attracting people with the same mindset is therefore important. I look forward to advising many more companies on data-driven working and to collaborating on great projects with social impact.’
