Low-code is still the craft of software development

BLOG SERIES: EXPERTS TALKING TO EXPERTS
Knowledge sharing is a core value woven into Conclusion's DNA. Anthony Dickinson, CTO and solution architect at Conclusion Low Code Company, enjoys contributing to this. Internally, but also externally, such as during the Tweakers Developer Summit 2024. There, he gave an inspiring masterclass on low-code.

Broadening horizons within Conclusion

That Anthony was on stage at the Tweakers Developer Summit fits in with his own and Conclusion's mission to share knowledge as much as possible. According to Anthony, Conclusion fully encourages knowledge sharing. ‘For example, colleagues from different Conclusion companies can share their knowledge on a variety of topics at Conclusion on Stage. You can also join one of our guilds, where colleagues from across our ecosystem from the same field meet. Then there is also the Code Café or you can attend the Architect hour. Through all these initiatives from our ecosystem of companies, we broaden our view and learn from each other.’

Knowledge sharing within Conclusion Low Code Company

Knowledge sharing is also paramount within Conclusion Low Code Company, says Anthony. ‘For example, everyone has personal development days and we hold internal webinars about our wonderful projects. At Conclusion, there are so many initiatives to learn from each other, you can attend an inspiring session almost every day,’ Anthony concludes. ‘Knowledge sharing is in our DNA. We do this internally and externally. This is how our consultants grow and how we help our clients.’

The power of low-code: fast and impactful

Anthony got to share his knowledge on stage during the Tweakers Developer Summit. He fired off a strong story about the power of low-code. ‘Developers and architects with a traditional programming background often think that low-code is only suitable for simple applications, but that is a misconception,’ Anthony explained. ‘With low-code, you can just as easily develop complex, scalable solutions that touch organisations at their core. It still involves craftsmanship and a deep understanding of software development. Using several cases, I showed that you can develop both small and large, simple and complex applications. There was no scepticism in the room, just interested developers asking good questions. Very fun and valuable!’

Collaboration with Mendix

At Conclusion Low Code Company, they use the low-code platform Mendix, which Anthony was introduced to 12 years ago. ‘We work closely with the professionals at Mendix. We hold regular meetups at our company where Mendix developers come together. We also organised an event where we went to Mendix with all our colleagues to give feedback from the field. In the Mendix community, we have been a pioneer of knowledge sharing across organisational boundaries for almost 10 years. This allows community members to grow faster in expertise, we learn with but also from our competitors.’

The future of low-code

Anthony remains fascinated by the possibilities of low-code. ‘It's not just the visual development environment; the platform is constantly evolving. With new features and trends like generative AI, I see a future where you can generate parts of applications from a written prompt. Of course, human intelligence will still be needed. And so developers who are happy with low-code. That is my goal: to enthuse even more - experienced and novice - developers.’
