From intern to marketing hero: Joep's internship

After a conversation with the father of his best friend, Joep came into contact with Corianne, our director of marketing & communication. Joep explains: "That father is Seger, the managing director of Conclusion Netherlands. He asked me what I liked most about my studies. When I said marketing, he gave the tip to call Corianne. I did. The phone call immediately felt good, and before I knew it I was on the train to Utrecht for an introductory meeting."  

"I was immediately completely taken by Joep's enthusiasm and entrepreneurial attitude," says Corianne. "He also came at just the right time, because we were looking for an intern in our digital team. I paired him with Orion and Kay, two experienced digital marketers." Joep: "Their guidance is top-notch. They took me in as if I were a permanent colleague. That gives confidence and also brings a sense of responsibility. Then of course you want to perform."

Developing talent

"I didn't really know what to expect beforehand," says Joep. "I was especially curious about what it is like to work and participate in a team. The first few days were searching, but I quickly found my way." Corianne: "A good internship offers the opportunity to discover in practice what makes your heart beat faster and what your talents are. That's why we like to let an intern try out everything."

Joep says: "The first two weeks, Orion and Kay took me in tow. Then I got my own project. Conclusion develops many white papers. I make sure that the whitepapers are posted on the website, and that the entire process of downloading runs smoothly. There's a whole workflow behind that in HubSpot. By studying and testing the data, I saw opportunities to optimize that process. When the marketing qualified leads then flow in, that is of course satisfying." 

Developing skills

Joep: "This internship taught me to plan. That has always been a challenge. I have learned to structure my working week. Meetings and major work went well, but I mainly let the small things take their course. Of course, they pile up, and you will automatically come across them again if it is not convenient.  

In addition, I have experienced what it is like to work together in a team. At Conclusion, you get the freedom to work partly from home. That will be an advantage for many interns, but I don't like it at all. The social aspect is very important to me, my studies are already online a lot. I got to know a lot of new people during the introduction and intern days. In addition, you can go to the sky bar with roof terrace every Thursday, and cool sports events are organized every now and then." 

Highlights: cooperation FC Utrecht and contract as a working student 

"The highlight of my internship was the visit to the FC Utrecht – Willem II football match, with 800 colleagues," says Joep. "Conclusion is the main sponsor of the football club. It is special to experience that collaboration up close. And I won't soon forget the meetings in the skybox." The other highlight is a recognition of Joep's good work. Corianne concludes: "We offered Joep a contract as a working student. This allows him to help out in the team during the quieter periods of his studies. A real win-win situation."
